Filing deadline for 2019 federal, Arizona income tax returns moved to July 15

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Friday tweeted that the deadline for filing 2019 federal tax returns has been moved from April 15 to July 15.

“All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties,” wrote Mr. Mnuchin, who also noted that he was acting at President Trump’s direction.

The White House had announced on Tuesday that tax payments could be deferred 90 days, leading to speculation that the tax return filing deadline would follow suit. That was confirmed Friday morning.

Mnuchin said Americans with refunds should still file now in order to receive their refunds sooner than later.

The Arizona Department of Revenue has followed the IRS’s lead, announcing that 2019 Arizona income tax returns and payments are due July 15. Determinations for state filing and payment deadlines are left to each state.
